This is addressed to newcomers to Ugly Hedgehog and to those that only see the Daily Digest. Nothing here that hasn't been said before, but it's generally been buried in other topics.

I think that when you first subscribe to UHH you get the Daily Digest and access to the Main and Gallery sections. Many of you seem to be unaware of the other UHH sections. That's because they're not automatically shown to you, you have to subscribe to them.

So, take a look at the list of sections on the UHH Home Page and subscribe to those you might be interested in. Clicking on "Newest Topics" at any time will then give you a list of new topics in the sections you subscribed to.

I post this topic to highlight the existence of the other UHH sections. If any of you seasoned UHHers have other suggestions for new UHHers please post!

An important note about the digest: it is only a sampling. For example, there are 35 slots for Photo Gallery in the digest, but there are usually 50 to 70 new topics posted to Photo Gallery every day.

The digest is broken down into separate sections and is "yesterday's news." Using "Newest Topics" at the top of any UHH page not only gives you all the new topics in your subscribed sections combined into one handy list, but they are updated in real time, with newest at the top.

"ALL SECTIONS" is a link at the bottom of any UHH page. Browse there, instead of the home page. Then subscribe to any of interest.

You can also unsubscribe from any of the original sections (there are 7 or 8, not just main and gallery). I don't regularly follow chit-chat, and never look at buy/sell or links/resources. I unsubscribed from those so they don't clutter my newest topics list

My UHH experience has been enhanced by aggressive use of the <unwatch> button. When a flame war starts or one of several members begin to contribute, I just unwatch to not be drawn into the goings on. I can always select the topic again from Active Topics or the top of the Main Section if a few more pages have been added without minute-by-minute updates to my watch list.

A good idea, thanks for posting. One other thing newcomers would find helpful is the “Help” link at the top of the page. It offers information on many different subjects.

I have found that clicking "Newest Topics" to be much better than relying on the daily digest.

Use external search engines to search for info within UHH. The built in forum search reads only the thread titles.
