I am interested in purchasing an external monitor for my MacBook Pro. I use mainly PS and LR for external editing. Would appreciate any recommendations.

Love my Ezio. Comes with its own calibration software. I have my images printed at Bay Photo with no color correction, and they always perfectly match what I see on my monitor

Here is a good article on monitors for photography. He covers the different types of monitors and advantages / disadvantages.

#1 Don’t use a gaming monitor for photography. They are optimized for refresh rates, not wide color gamut or color consistency.

#2 Preferably, get a monitor that can display 100% of the Adobe RGB color gamut.

#3 Get and use a hardware and software calibration and ICC profiling kit and use it on a monthly basis.

#4 Calibrate both monitors to the same aims:

Black Point 0.5 cd/m^2
White Point 80-120 cd/m^2 (I use 105)
Color Temperature 5800K
Gamma 2.2

#5 Lock out any OS feature that automatically adjusts brightness or color temperature based on ambient conditions. For photography, your monitor should always look the same.

I use a Benq SW2700PT, which is one of their monitors specifically designed for photography. I highly recommend Benq. I also calibrate with an X-Rite i1 Display Pro.

I use a MacBook Pro (2015) connected to an NEC P221W monitor. Very satisfied with resolution, etc. NEC customer support is great, should you need it. When it is time to replace, I will consider PA series from NEC . Spectra view II. software is easy to use and understand, and it has a great reputation. Hope this helps.
