AD 1947 - The HOUSE UN-AMERICAN ACTIVIES COMMITTEE began the second 'RED SCARE' with televised hearings.
AD 1924 - The MONARCHS of KANSAS CITY, champions of the 'NEGRO NATIONAL LEAGUE' defeated the HILLDALE ATHLETIC CLUB, champions of the 'EASTERN COLORED LEAGUE', by a score of 5-0 to win the first 'COLORED WORLD SERIES' five games to four with one tie before a crowd of 1,549 at SCHORLING PARK, Chicago.
Jose Mendez, who had pitched ten innings of relief in the first nine games, started and hurled a three hit shutout for the Monarchs.
AD 1714 - Georg Ludwig von Hannover crowned as George I King of Great Britain and Ireland. Georg Ludwig von Hannover was also the ruler of the Duchy and Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg in the Holy Roman Empire and first British monarch of the 'HOUSE OF HANOVER.'

One of my favorite ballplayers - Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige - was on the Monarchs team, I'm pretty sure. What a great player and person. (And, we share the same birthday, albeit about fifty years apart!
