Only in four pictures, out of nearly 80, is this bar to the right of the bird visible. Any suggestions as to the cause?

It reminds me of a very close, out of focus element such as hair or vegetation. This one is kind of big and you were shooting upward, but I wouldn't rule out its being something in the air in front of your lens.

Thanks for looking. I probably should have said a horizontal band. Starts at the elbow of the left wing and upward to the mid neck, then all the way to the right border.

Thank you for your comment. I was standing on the side of the river, just past the dam, with nothing but sky between the bird and me.

Were you panning the camera? Could have been a small cloud behind the bird. I do see that you have pollen on your sensor, BTW.

Thank you for your comment. The sky was clear of clouds; and yes, I was aware of the spots on the sensor and thought I'd removed all of them prior to posting. Thanks for catching those. No excuse except older than dirt eyes.

Sensor dust or a dirt streak or hair on the sensor. Dust isn't always the classic circular spot. Personally, on a DSLR I had a cat hair behind the mirror on the sensor that looked something like this, not always the same place and not always on every image. It took me 6 months before I learned about the mirror lock-up on a DSLR to find the hair and remove with a tweezer. Your Sony 77m2 may just need the sensor cleaned.

Horizontal band just below the bird's head.

What camera and lens were you using? Were the other "barred" shots taken of birds and the sky?

Sensor maybe but possibly the half mirror.

I’ve run into chromatic aberration before. It kind of looks like that. Clear blue skies seem to be the most notorious for that. It’s similar to the effect from using a prism.

Banding? Usually seen on very small gradients when using 8 bit color spaces.

Sony a77-2, first edition of Tamron 150-600. Band only showed up in the four photos of this bird.
Thanks for looking.

Thank you for your input. I've now cleaned the sensor and tomorrow I'll go back to the dam and see if I can replicate the shot.
