I think I'm in love. I did notice one thing. They never showed Al Hirt from the side or back so much.

Fantastic trumpet.

He and Pete Fountain played some fun stuff. When I was young I enjoyed Al's stuff. Went out to Meadowbrook to hear him at a concert and went back stage to see him afterwards. He was a nice guy. Al was a personality. He oozed Bourbon Street and New Orleans. Just for kicks, I'd love to hear Alison Balsom play the Flight of the Bumblebee and the Green Hornet.

Raphael Mendez had a 78 with one side "Flight of the Bumble Bee" and the other side "Concerto for Trumpet". I saw quite a few big bands at the Meadowbrook. Glen Miller for HS Graduation (54')

Which Meadowbrook are you referring to? The Meadowbrook Music Pavilion near Oakland University opened in 1964.

Here's Al's version. Who's the virtuoso? Mendez. Who's the entertainer? Hirt.
