My Edits on Norwalk River with Fog

It's always interesting to see how peoples edits go with one of your own images. I thought I would post two of mine. The first here is as far as I pushed it, and I like it fine, but I felt that it had gone so far as to clear out a little too much fog, so I blended it with an earlier version in the editing to bring back some softness I had liked about it. Salvagediver's version makes mine look very bland.

Good results! It is always nice to see what you had in mind in these contest shots.

Sometimes we start off seeing something like fog as our enemy, then we decide that it wasn't so bad. It's good to have that sort of flexibility.

The other element of this particular exercise is the OP (fergmark in this case) has the context of when, how, environmental mood, OP's emotional state, etc.. in the image when he/she views it. The OP has the emotional attachment to the image. Without the emotional attachment, the image is like a clean slate. We others edit and view the image by making up our own story. I'm amazed and impressed by the different ways others here interpret and present an image. That's what makes this section so fun.

Also, thanks fergmark for posting your edited version of this image. It's always so interesting to hear what your originally saw and felt in the image. I wish this was done more often.

BTW, I had a different feel from this image. Working off boats, ships and piers in an earlier life, I saw the start of a new working day along with the rich vibrant colors that accompany the early morning sun. I could smell the grease, diesel fuel and exhaust fumes from the construction equipment. I could hear the tug tooting his horn as he comes putting up the river to the work site. I could also hear the sound of a fog horn sitting on a nav bouy near the work site bellowing into the fog every 30 sec or so. That was the story I saw in your image. Thanks for letting us play with it.

Its funny how that works. I usually steer towards greater clarity and definition in the foggy shots. Any shot for that matter, but flexibility is good.

One of the best aspects of this exercise, as you said, is to be free to go outside your box, so to speak. Very liberating. I remember you added your own edit in a separate post following one of your MIYV images some time ago. I was really glad to see that. I suppose it might be a possibility for us to PM Erich our own edit at the time we post the new weekly MIYV. He could then include it in the Dropbox post either for everyones interest, or even as an entry, eligible for the voting. Just a thought. Thanks for your thoughts SalvageDiver!
