Dogon Smoking Pipe and Filters

I've used one of my own filters as the background and added two more for effect, then dropped in some borrowed smoke, all in an attempt to show the pipe to best affect. Do you think it works? Ps says its in sRGB but it's loaded the thumbnail colours do not look correct. Please download to view.

Inspired by WW2 General McCarther's Corn Cob pipe? This is a standard issue for modern Generals?

I like the confusing message. The circular pattern composition is consistent. The lighting looks well balanced. You give us a starting point of light lower-left which is good for western culture of starting on the left. The granularity prevents flatness.

Summary: Very well done magnetoman

Yes it works. Everything comes together perfectly to create the image.

Quite a unique pipe. And well lit too like a pipe should be.

Certainly a weird looking pipe Don - I have three more very similar but no legs.
I like your analysis of the image, but I’m not sure it was intentional on my part!
Many thanks for your comments.

I smoked a pipe for over fifty years - keeping them well lit is a constant battle!
Many thanks for commenting Fotoartist.

Better said, "I’m not sure it was consciously intentional on my part!"
At times we do not know what we are doing and instinctively do the right thing.

You’re possibly being a bit optimistic in regards to my abilities, but I’ll accept that!😁

A verry nice image, but I would like to see it with more dense smoke. I pipe like that should be proud of its work.

Good point - I was in two minds on whether to have it alight or not and have possibly been a bit feeble with it!

It has taken me several days to become comfortable with your pipe, Dave. It's quite unique 🤗 I did read a little about the Dogon people to get a better sense of the figure depicted.

Your background and colors work wonderfully!

I did think twice before posting it Linda, and decided it was OK as I could refer any complainant to a bit of research - so you pre-empted any problem there! As I’ve mentioned above, I do have others of similar design but this is by far the most striking as it has legs! I used to have a vast collection of antique and unusual pipes but sold it off when I gave up smoking. Anyway, I digress, thanks for commenting on the image as presented. I am certainly happy with it.
