Was trying remote op of my Z6 via my smart phone, and of course no birds. But then the dinner bell went off somewhere, and several of these cuties appeared!

Good morning JG,

Have never seen these before although the head / beak remind me of the Grosbeak family. Looking forward to others' answers.

All the best to you and yours,

Terry

According to iNaturalist which I accessed with a photo of your photo it is a scaly-breasted Munia from Asia but popular in the pet trade. Maybe an escaped bird from the pet trade which has taken up local residence?

They are commonly called Nutmeg Mannikins. Natives of Asia, they were introduced by pet shops in the US and due to escapees are now widespread throughout many states.

Wow, rare catch as they are not native birds.

I have yet to see these birds but what a set of photos. What an amazing range and sub-species. Thank you for sharing

You may want to contact the Audubon Society. I think they like to keep track of birds like this.
