Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced on the smallish size camera backpack that can carry a medium sized/weight tripod? There are so many to choose from, it would be good to hear from some Hogs.
As for tripod, I just ordered a Manfrotto Befree 3-way live advance tripod $279. Backordered (up to 2 months) everywhere but I just snatched one from B&H. Should get mine Thursday.
Go to a store in Boston and bring your stuff. Find one that fits your pocket and stuff.

I look at images of various cases/packs "stuffed" examples on-line and try to figure what of mine I would put where in them. B&H usually has good "packing" images for the cases they sell.
That's how I decided on my backpack and messenger bag, which I'm pleased with.
Ideally I'd like to go to a store to see them, but they may have a limited number of cases.
i have tried many different kinds over the years and my favorite back pack is the vanguard Alta sky 510. it has enough space for my camera and five lenses not including the one mounted on the camera. i also carry a set of binoculars in the top of it for easy access. it has front side and top access to the camera and bottom access to the lenses and other things i carry. the straps and bag are very well padded so i dont worry about it taking a tumble. lowe pro makes good ones too. i have had two of those.

Buying a backpack or a tripod is like buying shoes. Unless you try them on before you buy, you could be disappointed.
Take a trip to Hunt’s in Melrose. Bring your stuff. They won’t BS you and are extraordinarily helpful. There is a Hunts in Kenmore Square, I think, but I always go to the mother ship.
Hunt drug or Photo is great, I bought my first SLR there in the early 80's !! There are several locations in the greater Boston area !!
LowePro makes a wide array of packs designed for photographers. They make quality gear.
LowePro Slingshot 200 AW has served me well for about 10 years. It may not carry all your stuff but I've found for an all around case it's pretty good.
