I'm trying to determine the year of this photograph. A clue may be the car at the extreme right. You can just see the taillight. My best guess is a 46 Mercury. Any ideas?

Better still, Stan, I'll just tap the left edge of the picture and have them gravitate to that side.

I think the 46 Mercury is correct. Here’s a shot of a 1946 Mercury Coupe from wiki.
Even though the car is sitting there, it may not necessarily be new in your photo. After all it was in front of a Firestone Tire shop and not a car dealership.

It is indeed a Mercury 46, or 47, or 48. I vote for 48.

Thanks, everyone. That puts the photo in the late 40's if the car is relatively new which I suspect it is.

My guess is 1948-1950.

They are at a tire dealer and the car needs to be old enough to need tires.

1941 there were no 42 -47 vehicles made. Due to wartime production Google has that exact model photo listed as 1941. I had a 41 dodge coupe that had similar lines

Over 2M US autos were produced ifor model year 1946 and over 3M for 1947 and a bit over 1M for 1942 although most if not all of those were built in late 1941. Model years 1943, 1944 and 1945 did not happen.

My dad had a 1947 Merc four-door that had a floor switch near the headlight dimmer switch to change radio stations. My mom rolled it over (no injury) one Sunday driving back from church. That sort of calmed down her driving but I got the gene.
