Usually! You will have to use your imagination.
I am driving in the park, slowly!! Always looking for some action. I see a hawk in a tree and all of a sudden he sees a 🐿 and goes on the pursuit down in the grass area. I park on the shoulder and run 🏃🏻‍♀️across the street.
The squirrel dodges her predator, is up in a 🌳looking down at this hawk taking a drink of water. I jump back in my 🚙 which is out on the street and I park in the parking area.
I jump out again with my 📷 in hand and by the time I get to them the hawk always aware of where the 🐿 is, takes a couple hops over to where this squirrel is up in tree in plain sight.

To my amazement the squirrel jumps down the tree, startles the hawk and starts chasing the hawk.😱 The hawk is hopping away before it throws its wings in gear and starts to fly to get away from the new predator and I am behind them running 🏃🏻‍♀️in hot pursue with another hawk besides me. I don't know where he came from but he was after this crazy squirrel.
The prey becomes the predator. Squirrel survives!! The photographer misses the shots but enjoys the moment. The end.

Hope you enjoyed this one.

Thru my eyes:

We are chatting on the front porch. An eagle swoops by into the next neighbor’s bushes. He re-emerges carrying a squirrel and avoiding the crows that would steal his lunch.

We laff. We are not out of breath. Nobody cares about chasing our local critters with a camera. We chill.

Birds are fun to watch, but I have yet to see anyone post a bird picture that is fun to look at. Bird pix seem to be trophies. Sports can be fun and exciting. Trophies on a shelf are not. The great moment of receiving a trophy is fun. If I didn’t see you and cheer for you in that moment, a trophy can’t excite me later. Maybe I’ll be on hand for your next moment of glory. That would be fun.

I stopped running many years ago. That's what zoom lenses are for.

Last year I was in Peaceful Waters in Wellington Florida following a Great Egret along the shore line. He was hunting a brown water snake who kept eluding the Great Egret for about a half hour. Every time the Great Egret struck, the snake escaped. In the end though it was not really a contest. But, I got off some good shots, the one below shows the snake with it's mouth open.

Loved your experience. I has one similar when my house cat chased a black bear off the driveway. The cat charged at the bear and it just took off. It does the same thing to my German Shepherd and I'm sure when it saw the bear it thought it was the dog which he plays with all the time.
