I thought about it pretty hard but I hate having extra stuff lying around.
The shutter just died in my 6-D.
It has given me excellent service... I will add that.
No idea how many shots I have used it for... probably a lot.

Was using it yesterday... took about a dozen shots of the grandkids... then.
Poof. Done.

Sorry to hear of your loss Steve......was it the 1st iteration model and how many years did it serve you?

I have the MKII version about two years now and so far No Problems.....keeping my fingers crossed and yes, I am seriously considering the 5DMKIV as my next step-up.....the sale price is attractive , no question.

New shutters are really reasonable, I got a new shutter in a Nikon for about $300.00. And considering I get about 250,000 clicks, that comes to about 12 cents per shot. I call that reasonable.

It is 0.12 cents. You had the number of dollars.

My condolences. The only camera I "lost" was a Miranda Sensorex in the 1970s. A tripod leg slipped, and it hit the floor.

You can still find out how many shots your Canon has taken by examining a recent photo. Let us know when you find out.

As for hesitating, there's a saying about that, "He who hesitates..."

My problem is that I often click Buy Now and then have second thoughts.

It is a 6d 1, older version.

The camera is about 6 yrs old and it really owes me nothing.
It has been flawless til now.
I wish it were in the drop down menu for shutter clicks though...
It must have a lot. It prob would have prompted me to replace it earlier.
The shutter replacement cost $385 including shipping, etc.

I have always used Canon gear. Will continue with the brand.

He had it right. 300 into 250,000 is .0012.
At .12 cents per shot the cost would be $30,000.

Last time I checked, mirrorless still have shutters, which, I believe, will wear out.

At this stage in the game you have to make a decision. The camera is already 6 years old, which in my case means nothing but it does to others. Is $350 for a new shutter more reasonable than to spend $2,500? Will the new camera give you new features that will prove useful for your photography?

When you send the camera for a shutter replacement the whole camera gets a work out. A new shutter goes with adjustments and cleaning. In some cases even the exterior cover if in need is replaced. The camera ends up as new.
Think about all this or better yet, if interested in a new shutter discussed it with Canon and see what will they do to the camera in addition to replacing the shutter. If the camera has been working flawlessly it will be like a new camera once the shutter is replaced. Used ones and only God knows in what condition run for about $700-800.

Good luck.

For sure... I am sending it in for repair.
I am sure it will be like new when I get it back.

For under $400 I will get some more years out of it.

That's a bit of frustration, having me gnash my teeth at reading. The cost is still less than trying to find a replacement used EOD 6D rather than the repair. Unless you want to spend more for another newer FF camera, the repair seems the reasonable next step.

No. 0.12 cents x 250000. = 30000 cents
To get dollars you need to divide by 100
So 30000 cents/100 = $300
So it is 0.12 cents per shot
