Been having problems with feeder damages during the night so I set up the field camera. I suspected it was them.

The peanut feeder is missing and I wasn't able to find after walking yard. I'm at a loss at how to discourage them.

I had the same problem. Bought a 2 foot section of galvanized stove pipe and an end cap. Fastened cap to pipe with sheet metal screws and drilled a slightly oversized hole in end cap to fit over post. Attached high on post and have not had a problem since. I have videos of them trying to get around it and they can't. No problems for awhile.

I had them in my barn for a while. Discovered the trick to get rid of them. They hate ammonia. I soaked a few rags in ammonia and left them in plastic containers in the barn and they left. Maybe coat your cones in ammonia? Dont know what it will do to whatever you are trying to keep around. I also read that they dont like mountain lion urine which you can get at farm and rancher supply stores.

ammonia?eh? well worth trying. peanut butter usually stops squirrels and you dont want to try and catch a coon, they roll around in their skin and you end up with 4 claws and a mouthfull of teeth attacking YOU! a 223 is kinda like hunting squirrels with a howitzer, a small22 is fine.. aboutthe only wat to get the coon is to live trap 'em and release them far far away, but dont let the trap go unattended, they will get out of it....

Try greasing the poles.

I had a problem with raccoons coming up on the deck and going after the bird feeders hanging from the rails. I replaced the vertical hangers with ones that are about 4' long and at a 45' angle so they can't reach the feeders. I also filled a super soaker squirt gun with ammonia. After soaking them with ammonia a couple of times they never came back.

I had a terrible raccoon problem on the feeders when we lived in Maine for 17 years. We were in the forested countryside just outside a small village. My answer was a German RWS lever pump/cock pellet gun. It was very quiet in operation, but very powerful. I would sit in the dark in the house with a light on the deck feeders and the window open. One pellet to the ribcage turned them into a 10 stepper.

.22 shorts are an overlooked choice. Good at close range and relatively quiet. 😇
