I have watched at least 2 hours of U tubes on Canon log and have not found out if it can be used with stills. I am sure someone here knows.

Looking at the details of the final image (1/320 sec, f/2.8, ISO-3200), you're unlikely to get obviously better performance from a new camera in this light. The 5DIV has Canon's premier AF system, but if you're already shooting in AI Servo and using off center AF points, trying for the player's face, you'll struggle to really notice a difference between the two cameras for these situations. Yes, of course, there is flicker control, a higher burst and more pixel depth from the 5DIV, but these are features for a professional sports shooter where your results are already in the neighborhood.

LOG is for video, not still images.

I think you would find the 5D to be a significant upgrade for shooting the sports you’ve mentioned both from a FPS and overall durability/weather sealing. Only you can decide if it’s worth it. You should also take a look at the R6. It has the same sensor and maybe the same focusing system as the new 1D Canon’s flagship sports camera. Watch for sales during the holidays.

Log Is a video editing tool.

Questionable advice and wrong. Log or more correctly C Log is a capability of shooting what is known as flat video, the equivalent of shooting stills in raw.
