Hi - I'm looking forward to learning and sharing but being techincally challenged in following even the simplest of IT instructions I will be amazed if I manage to post this introduction where it is supposed to be found! I'm very much an enthusiastic amateur who would love to learn to take my pictures on manual as opposed to auto and currently of the school where if you take enough images, hopefully there will be something of merit. I have four beautiful golden retrievers who tend to be my favourite subject, so it is action shots that I would love to learn to capture on a more than lucky ad hoc basis - anyway wish me luck in trying to attach a couple of my water babies! And I will now try to create a profile - thanks for your time.

If this is what technically challenged looks like, I can’t wait for your shots once you get proficient. The focus was great, the subject matter was great, the composition was great, and the color was great.

Did I mention that your shots were great?

Well done!

Why thank you muchly seeSAW, more by luck than judgement! I'm hoping to increase my chances with a little more "know-how" as I mentioned before it is a numbers name with my pictures which is of course the beauty of digital. My subject matter doesn't change much, but I see from your website and gallery that you have a very diverse taste and view and of course that all important "eye". I love the duo of fish on the fountain and the car reflected in the silver hubcap. Thanks again for your response - Sheenagh & co

Thank you Jo, or Jole?! A couple of years ago I bought a Canon 7D on the understanding that it would take fabby photos on auto - big eye opener that actually you had to use this beasty and I for one was not up to the job! I down graded to a fully automated Canon 600 which is just tickedy boo, but I want to wean myself away from the Auto button! Here's hoping!

welcome, those dog photos show me that you have an eye for composition. lovely shots of your four legged fur covered kids. Couple of sugestions for you. first I noticed your in the UK land of the fabulous photo magazines! Photo plus is geared specifically for canon users, though this Nikon ninja finds it very useful as well. Second the easiest way to understand the basics of photography on manual setting is to get the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen (available at amazon.com) in plain English and not techno-gibberish, he will explain ISO, shutter speed and f stops. Not only will you understand how to get the correct exposure but the most creative one as well. right on page one he tells you to set your camera on manual!

finally nothing beats experience. since shooting allot of shots cost nothing but time, take your camera out, set it on manual and start playing with the shutter speed ISO and f stops to see what they do. Good Luck

I personally do not find fault with point and shoot cameras. Their light meters do a great job, and as I have said before a good picture could be lost, while one is trying to set a camera up manually. Pro photographers do use the auto mode frequently. Your photo's are just a sample of this. Welcome!

Looks like you hit a home run first time up to UHH bat. Shoot a lot, use your eye and don't take the PP snobs too seriously!.
