I’m not a big shopper so don’t follow this stuff.
Does Prime Day on Amazon create better buying opportunities regarding name brand gear?
Thanks

For Amazon, it is a marketing ploy. For me, it is a challenge to leave my zoom lenses at home and venture out with only 1 or 2 Single-focal length (Prime) lenses. This year I'm thinking 24mm and 85mm.
I am not totally familiar with it but I remember last year, they put major discounts on lots of things but not everything. I think you will just need to log in and look through the sales items.
Basically, it's a big sale day.

It’s the day when amazon puts all their garbage on sale.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure. One could make the same argument for Black Friday. While I have no particular interest in most of the things I see for sale on Prime Day, in the past I have been able to get a number of items that I had wanted for a significant discount over their regular price.
You do not have to be a member of Amazon Prime to take advantage of many of the sales. However, in my experience the best stuff with the best discounts is reserved for Amazon Prime members. For those who rarey buy from Amazon, the annual cost of being a Prime member may not be worth it. For me, the cost of an annual membership pays for itself in much less than one month. My family takes advantage of the free movies and TV shows available with Amazon Prime. That alone makes the annual membership very cost effective.
I'm getting a growing number of deliveries from Amazon each and every week. With two day or less shipping, no shipping charges, and no minimum amount, I can order almost anything that I could buy in any store and have It delivered directly to my home for the same price or less. And I can order whenever the mood strikes me, even at 2:00 in the morning!
Last year they had a misprice on some Canon Big Whites, 13K lens for $100 bucks. Doubt that happens again. They honored the price, folks reported.

They had a similar problem with Sony bodies and lenses last year. All sorts of bodies (A7, A9, etc.) and lenses were listed at $94.48 and Amazon honored the orders.

Like you, worth the price for me. Years ago, I once order a $1.00 packet of screws, arrived 2 days later by itself. Just easier than going to the store... Even when I'm traveling, I'll check products to have them delivered to my neighbor; internet doesn't care where you order from. A lot of chaff, but you can find some deals...
