Look into synchronizing software like Goodsync. It will keep a second drive location up to date as a mirror of the the first drive.

it doesn't clone does it? Just copies the drive?

Or you could set the two drives up to mirror (RAID 1) using the Windows or Max utilities built into the OS - simple.

Yes, Goodsync works well. I keep forgetting about it because I use Syncback for making backups. In DOS days, there was a program called Dirmatch from PC Magazine. It let you make two directories identical by moving files from one to the other.

GoodSync does neither. It keeps a record of what is on drives A and B. Then it changes B to match A. If you add a file or files to A, GoodSync will copy those same files to B. If you delete files from A, GoodSync will delete them from B. Goodsync has options where it can be set to delay permanent deletion.

The result is as if you made a full copy of A to B. The difference is that GoodSync does it with changes so the time required is reduced.

GoodSync is full of options that make it do what you want. You can limit it to folders. You can keep it running in the background. You can use it periodically to fit your own work.

Is there a comparable piece of software on the Mac side, or is Goodsync Universal?

"Is there a comparable piece of software on the Mac side,"

It is software. They most likely have a website. You might take a look and see. I think they have one for everything from Android to Windows.
