In 1984 I had the opportunity while diving in the North Umpqua River to see an event very, very few divers, and even fewer biologists, witness. I saw, and was able to photograph on two different dives, the Western Pearlshell Mussel, "Margaritifera falcata (Gould, 1850), spawning. Here is one of these photographs, that I took on Kodacolor 100 print film. I was using a Nikonos II underwater camera with a Subsea 150 strobe (manual strobe). I do not remember the setting, but the camera had to be at 1/60th second and the F-stop was probable either F-8 or F-16. This was done with a 1:3 macro extension tube with a wire framer. The lens was the standard 35mm Nikonos lens.

Got lucky and caught this woodpecker, and was able to crop it.
My first try for a bird. Got lucky!
