Back on September 9, 1965, I was at Dodger Stadium with my soon to be wife to enjoy an afternoon of baseball.
I had no idea that I was about to witness history. Lou Johnson scored the only run in that game but that was not what made history.
It was the game that Sandy Koufax pitched his perfect game.
Lou Johnson, dies at age 86
Lou Brock and Bob Gibson just recently passed away. I live in Cardinal fan territory.
Sorry to hear this...he was a clutch hitter in many games for the Dodgers. 1965 Was the year The Dodgers beat the Minnesota Twin in the World Series. That may have been the year they had the lowest team average, in history, to go to a world series, .214!!

I used to love Gibson vs. Seaver matches. The score was usually around 2-1 and the games took a little over two hours. They were both fierce competitors. I miss that era of baseball.

Any idea how many tines they faced each other? I’ve tried to google it but haven’t had any luck.

Not sure but in those days there were only two divisions. I believe that the Mets and cardinals were in the same division so they played each other 18 times in a season. Gibson and Seaver probably matched up many times.

Lou Johnson, dies at age 86I worked at Saucon Valley Country Club for 13 years. It is located near Coopersburg, PA where Sandy lives. He was not a member of the club but had a friend that is and several times a year his friend brings him over to play golf. I never met him but always felt it was a neat thing that he played there. Saucon is one of the top Private clubs in the US and we have had many famous people stop by for golf.

Sandy Koufax was the greatest pitcher that I ever saw.

An article about the first match-up between the two
Thank you for sharing that. The National league was loaded with great players in the sixties and seventies. Seaver and Gibson were just two of many.

I'm a Red Sox fan and in 1967 Gibson broke my heart but he was an amazing pitcher.
