Nice set. "...last Winter..." explains their breeding colors. The ducks returning now to the Central Valley refuges are mostly in eclipse plumage. We've got a bit of a wait before we see the beautiful birds you photographed.

Mike

Good observation Mike, it also explains why they were so cooperatively paired off. Most of these were taken this past Feb when making little ducks was the business at hand. The White-fronted Geese have been comming into the norther Sacramento valley for the past two weeks and the refuges are starting to flood the ponds.! Thank for the comment.

Thanks Blair, we are fortunate on the Pacific flyway to enjoy an amazing variety of migratory water fowl. I appreciate your visit and hope you are safe and well.

Nice set. Those shots make me miss places where water runs over the ground. Good luck on rain.

Thanks Jack! The contrast between the northern Sacramento valley's flooded rice fields and its burning foothills and mountains is eerie and terrible. No one wants rain more than the Napa-Sonoma vintners!
Appreciate your comment, Phil

Hi Sylvia and thanks, hope you are safe and well...wherever you may be! We are blessed with a great variety of migratory waterfowl, these represent about half of the species of regular visitors.

Enjoyed your pairings. Thank you for sharing. Ducks are starting to return to Delaware Bay. Saw Pintail, Shoveler, Gadwall, Mallard, and Green-winged Teal at Bombay Hook yesterday.

Thank you for the kind comment. One of the things I have enjoyed over the years here on UHH is hearing form folks on other seasonal migratory flyways. This is a good time of the year.

Phil, an over the top set of ducks. Great mixture at the same time.
