You've captured the beauty of desolation here.

I prefer "remoteness."

Beautiful place and a great capture of it. Where is the closest identifiable place to "Elsewhere"?

Pretty much an equal distance (2 miles or thereabouts) from either I-70 or Hwy 191. 'Town-wise,' the bustling metropolis of Thompson, Ut is about 5 miles, while the sleepy little backwater known as 'Mobe' (or 'Moab' to those who don't know how to pronounce the town's name correctly) is 20 miles or so. (Double or triple some of those distance estimates if you plan to travel by road.)

Those, of course, assume that anything about Utah is somehow "identifiable."

Bob/cf4: I consider the place neither desolate nor remote; I consider it (a slight extension of) my back yard.

And to you who've used the word 'beauty' in some form or another, let me just say this: I came close to titling this post (not the photograph, mind you, the post) "Being & Nothingness." I think Sartre would've understood its Existentialism.

Nice photo. There’s a lot to be said about desolate places where folks aren’t bothered by the masses.

You can't call it "desolate" if there are plants. That's pretty much a tropical paradise for Utah.

Huh? Oh, yeah; that's right; you once lived around here, too.

But not recently, apparently. Now, places like this are called a frikkin' oasis!
