Getting PS 2019 To Play Nice With Nik

I've just been forced--long story--to convert to PS 2019, but I can't get my Nik filters to open with PS. When I was using PS 2017 the Nik menu opened automatically, now I can't get it to open. What am I missing? Thanks, in advance for any suggestions. Oh, I should mention, I've changed computers and had the Mac store move all of my files from my old machine. Nik is on the new machine--I'm absolutely sure of that--but it won't open IN PS.

I had the same problem with the 2019 version on subscription. It worked on the 2020 version.

Why are you still using PS 2019?

Thank you for your obvious concern regarding my uptodatedness with software, but I'm using 2019 because 2017 won't open on my new computer, and 2017 does everything I want to do, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. You may prefer 2020, but I was doing fine with 2017 and have only changed because my new Mac won't open 2017.

And, "no," 2020 won't open Nik either.

Thanks again.

Have you contacted Adobe support? Maybe Nik support also, but I have had very good support from Adobe.

If you're interested in using the free Google version and don't have the installation exe it can be found here:

Installer for Windows [430 MB]" http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.exe
Installer for Mac [590 MB]: http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg

Otherwise you will have to copy/cut from your 2017 and paste it into your 2019 Plugin Folder

Windows From:
Copy/Cut the Google Directory from your PS 2017

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017\Plug-ins

Windows To:
Paste your Google Directory into the Plugins Folder of 2019

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Plug-ins

If you have PS open at the time, close PS 2019 and the change will be recognized in the PS plugin directory.

Well, let's unpack what you just wrote - 2017 does everything - except it won't open on your new computer. Others have chimed in that 2019, your choice as a solution to 2017 not working on your new setup has caused problems, but 2020 has not.

It seems that the solution is pretty obvious - get 2020. I'm certain it will do e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g you need it to do, and even some things you haven't even thought of yet. And it will open on your new computer. As far as Nik is concerned, you have to get the current version of that, too, from DXO's website. Staying current with software has its benefits. I stopped running my BMW R90S when gas companies stopped producing leaded premium gas. It just ran like crap on the new stuff, so I just got a new bike that was engineered and tuned to run correctly on the new gas. Oh, and the replacement BMW ran and rode better than the old one. Win-win for me.

Try this. It should work. Go to Program files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop 2017>Plugins>NIKcollection. Highlight and copy the folder. Close out.

Then open Program files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop 2019>Plugins. Paste your NIK collection folder. Close out and open the program.

If it doesn't work, paste the individual programs rather than the whole folder.

Good luck!

I don't believe there is anything called Program files in the Mac directory structure. That is unless the user created that directory.

I tried the links you gave. Nothing happens. It looks like it's maybe going somewhere, but then, in a flash it simply stops and comes back to this page.

That’s very interesting, because that’s sort of what happened when I tried to open PS2017, only it returned to the desktop.

Here is the link that will let you get the old, free version of NIK filters from DXO. It is the version that many folks got free from Google when they owned it. You have to fill out the form, and they will email you the link to download it. They will also try to sell you their new version several times along the way but if you keep choosing the old unsupported free version, you can eventually get to it.

https://nikcollection.dxo.com/nik-collection-2012/

The old version works fine for me on my (older) macs running High Sierra. The new version is not much different except it has a geometry component for straightening leaning buildings and such.

The problem the OP is encountering is most likely from the plugins not transferring properly to the new PS plugin folder, so copying/pasting them in as described above should work, but reinstalling them should also work.

There is one glitch that I encountered in using the NIK plugins after I installed High Sierra OS, and it caused PS to crash every time I used a NIK plugin via PS. I had to change the NIK preferences in each NIK plugin to "apply to current layer" rather than to have it add a new layer for the plugin automatically. So I now create a new layer in PS, THEN launch the NIK plugin I want and everything works fine. This is a common glitch with some macs and it is not resolved by buying the new DXO version of NIK.

If you install the plugins, be sure Lightroom and Photoshop are OFF when you install, or the plugins may not show properly in your drop down "Edit In" menus.

Forgiven. I really appreciate the many suggestions and will continue to work on this problem. I love Nik, and it’s a major part of my pp routine, so this is a big deal to me.

I just tried it again. The link is definitely alive for both. It brings my save dialog up in my browser immediately. If you have another browser on your computer try using instead if you are without luck.
