They are a type of plastic polymer and they self-fill with water after soaking for 6 hours. Available on amazon.com - NOTCHIS Upgraded Clear Big Water Gel Beads

Hi, Linda from Maine.
They are on a clear glass plate about 6 inches above my iPad with images from the web below. I shoot at f 8, ISO 250 using my 105mm lens (NOT a macro).
I took about 250 shots over 15 different backgrounds. Still sorting, but these caught my eye first.
Your amazon tip was perfect.
