charging my D7200 like a cell phone?

I was told that I could plug the micro USB plug from my phones AC wall charger adapter directly into the micro USB input on my Nikon D7200. Is this true? Every night before bed I plug my phone in to be charged. It would be great to do the same for my camera, without having to take the battery out, place it in the charger and then plug that into the wall.

Been through the manual for the D7200 in detail, don't believe you can charge with USB till you get to the Z series Nikons with the newer series EN EL 15 batteries.

You make taking the battery out sound like a big deal. I just timed swapping batteries and putting one on the charger. Eight seconds. Fiddling with a cord, though I didn’t time it, has got to be longer process. I save precious seconds by leaving my charger plugged in all the time.

Do you mean taking the battery out, putting it in the charger, then putting it back in the camera is a difficult, painful, time consuming ordeal for you? I’m sorry you have such a terrible disability.
I suggest you look in the owners manual under battery charging to see if using the USB cable is a possibility.
Good luck on your tortuous journey through life.

Do you people have a life other than being rude. Just answer the question. What do you care why I want to know?

If my comment came across as rude, i'm sorry. I didn't mean it to be that way.

I wasn’t being rude, I was being sarcastic.

Currently only the Z cameras can be charged via USB directly into the camera. I think the Z5 is is the only one the can be powered by USB while in use.

Given the changes in charging technology, I think it is a good question albeit one that the manual can answer. Per my online manual, there is not for this camera, but I do agree that, unless you have something mounted to the bottom plate blocking the battery door, it really is not difficult

there is no reason not to leave the charger base plugged in near your cell phone. as the transformer is in the battery unit (vs a wall transformer), to eliminate “vampire transformer drain” you could unplug the battery unit from the cord, leaving the cord plugged into the wall. Not quite plugged in vs micro USB, but pretty darn close. Good luck

I recommend what made Kodak famous. You mail your D7200 to me, I will charge your camera's battery and return it to you fully charged for a small carrying charge of $75.00. I will even use Priority shipping back to you for free. Now, what could be better than that.

You have a valid question. Some cameras can be recharged with a USB cable, but even for those that can I don't think that it's the best solution. Unless the owners manual specifically states that USB charging can be done let's consider it as a bad idea. I keep several batteries on hand that are fully charged and swap as necessary.

Right. I don't recall that feature with most Nikon cameras. I don't like cameras that must be plugged in to get charged. I prefer an external charger. They're available on Amazon and eBay, usually a charger and two batteries for less than the cost of a factory battery.

Whoever told you that tale is totally misinforming you. As far as I am aware there are no Nikon FX/DX DSLRs that can have their batteries charged in situ via their USB connectors.

"

Obviously a Latin scholar.
