Is there any way to get the virtual horizon to display as an overlay on the Sony A7S? I can find it with the display button, but that displays everything but the scene.

I don't own an a7S but I do own a few other Sonys. I use the level function. This is not an overlay, but it does tell me when my camera is aligned with the horizon.

The display button will show only what you've set it to show. You must go into the main menu and navigate to display settings and check the boxes for what you want in the display. I believe the 1st-gen models had separate settings for viewfinder and LCD, but I'm not certain.

I use to own the a7S but traded it for my a7iii. I would look in the menu for it. But I can't remember on that camera.

My 7Sii has it as an overlay in the EVF cuz I chose that in the displays menu. That menu has sample pictures of the views it can provide for either/both monitor and/or EVF. Your version may have a somewhat different interface. Download both PDFs if you haven’t done that yet. Good luck :-)
