Yesterday was awful! No Internet. No cable. No phone. I lost everything around 9:00 AM. Spectrum said it would be working at 11:30. After several calls, they said it was fixed - no still working on it - will be fixed eventually. The phone came back in the afternoon, and the TV came back some time in the evening. It's amazing how helpless I felt not being able to go online and check things and talk to people. At least my cell phone worked.

When the TV came back, it couldn't find the Tivo box, so no TV. That came back after a while, but then the TV cut out. All I have now is a black screen. The TV in the other room works, though. The day before yesterday, my TV sounded like everyone was gargling. Remember how simple life used to be? Seven channels and rabbit ears on top of the TV.

Seven channels? You had seven channels? Luxury! We only had two and a half (one was intermittent).

We have become very reliant on electricity, so much so we don’t even realize how much. One evening the electricity went out and I thought to myself No problem, I’ll just put on some music. Uh, no. That takes electricity too.

I have basically solved that problem with the purchase of a Generac whole house generator that runs on the same propane that heats my house. To me, it has been a worthwhile investment, the main ones being heat in the winter and ac in the summer.

Our t.v. often gets gargling voices or the screen goes blank. Unplugging it, waiting several seconds, and plugging it back in resets the computer in the t.v. and it works perfectly again.

We had a significant windstorm a couple months ago and lost power for 4 days (90% of the town was out). No electricity = no internet, lights, water, refrigeration, heat (not a problem in the summer, although we had a similar outage a couple years ago in February). Got a spare car battery and an inverter to run the refrigerator (would run it for about 2 hours before I had to recharge the battery from the car). The inverter also ran the charger for the rechargeable flashlights. We did a lot of work in the car, using the few still working cell towers for internet (about a 6 mile drive from home to find one that was working).

Over the past few years there have been 3-4 outages, but most of them are in the 3-6 hour range. Annoying, but not a real problem.

Electricity is essential to modern life.

And the other was WNTV, public, part time! Then we got some more independents. I remember being among the last to get TV. The question, remarkably the same today with 500+ channels, was "Why?"

That only works if (1) you have a local cell tower that is working and (2) you can keep your phone charged.

The personal hotspot is also not very useful if there's no power to run your computer.

One day last week we had no water from 5 am till 10 pm. The next day I had a stomach bug all day... sure glad they didn’t coincide!

By the way, it wasn’t just our house. It was maybe 1/3 of the city. It took 6 hours to locate the break (in a wooded area).

Amazing how connected we have become! Usually don't notice it until we lose all those connections. I worked in the electrical power business for many years and now in the telephone business. I am usually one of the first to get calls about outages. Some people are almost paralyzed if they don't have these services. My favorite solution is just pick up my latest book and start reading. Amazing how quiet it becomes when everything is off.

Sounds like you have a lot of electronics. We have 1 digital Tv 1 analog Tv with a convertor in the basement. We receive our Tv signal via an antenna on the roof and get about 27 channels. 2 cell phones and no land line. The only cable is for our internet. The power may go out once a year for several hours after a bad storm and we have a generator for that. Never has has everything gone out all at once as was your case. Some days we don't even turn the tv on and read a book. True it's only the wife and I but we like things simple and easy.
