Making Democrats Cry Again

Democrats' chances of stopping the confirmation of a Supreme Court nominee before E******n Day all but disappeared on Tuesday with an announcement from Mitt Romney. The Utah Republican says he supports moving forward with President Trump's soon-to-be-announced nominee, reports Axios. Romney was seen as a possible "no" v**e for Democrats, as was Colorado's Cory Gardner. Both have since fallen in line with Senate Republicans. While two GOP senators say they don't support confirmation until after Nov. 3—Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins—that's not enough to stop the process that Mitch McConnell has vowed will take place.

"The historical precedent of e******n year nominations is that the Senate generally does not confirm an opposing party's nominee but does confirm a nominee of its own," Romney said in his statement. "I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the president's nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to v**e based upon their qualifications." President Trump tweeted Tuesday that he'll announce his choice to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Saturday. (At least three female federal judges are on the short list.)

Despite the fact I've openly suggested President Trump should lay out his nominee list and make this nomination a campaign topic (especially with Biden refusing to lay out his list) I do revel at Romney being forced to adhere to his governance principle in spite of having to support Trump to do it. Romney had the ability to actually fight for his vision in 2012, but effectively chose to not campaign. Thus, I'm enjoying ....

Romney: trapped between his disdain of a man who actually fought for the office of President and his honest appraisal of the far left as WAY more dangerous.

Romney: twisted between wanting to look like a 'nice guy' and wanting to keep the Constitution.

Romney: forced to side with the party who would ban r**ts and open churches rather than party actually doing the opposite.

Romney: reluctantly forced into admitting the President can forestall Marxist judicial activism for a generation with a third SCOTUS nominee.

So much for Romney looking for the path of least resistance. I count this as another Trump win against the entrenched DC system.
