Würzburg, German – St. Killian’s Cathedral

Würzburg Cathedral (German: Würzburger Dom) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Würzburg in Bavaria, Germany, dedicated to Saint Kilian. It is the seat of the Bishop of Würzburg and has served as the burial place for the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg for hundreds of years. With an overall length of 103 metres, it is the fourth largest Romanesque church building in Germany, and a masterpiece of German architecture from the Salian period. The cathedral was heavily damaged by British bombs in March 1945 but rebuilt post-World War II.

A huge Menorah is the first thing seen when entering the cathedral. It is a tribute to the concept that the facility was instituted to depict the movement from Judaism to Christianity, with a Menorah at the entrance and a Cross before the Altar.

Würzburg, German – St. Killian’s Cathedral br br ... (show quote)

First of all, David, thank you so much for a “Dream come True” scenario!
This is a magnificent structure with a modest, almost ascetic exterior and contrasting, richly decorated, dressed in gold and marble Baroque inner space. I find that presence the Menora and Cross signifies indivisibility of both Old and New Testaments.
Very well done, David. Thanks again

You're certainly welcome. Glad I could oblige. I do have a few other shots of Würzburg -- you can see them by clicking on any picture in the set and going to the Album it's part of (notes below the photo).

Now catching up with my responses:

Thank you very much, Sylvias. I'm glad you liked it.

angler, I appreciate your compliment.

tradio, so nice to have your comment. I do attempt to fix the perspective most of the time. Sometimes it just doesn't look right, though.

frjack, thank you for your support. You're welcome. I'm always glad when someone likes my photos.

Great photographs David!
We were there last year. We stepped inside the front door and two minutes latter we were run out because they were preparing for the next service.....so we did not get to look around. Bad timing on our part! Now I see what we missed!
Beautiful cathedral!
Thank you for sharing!
