Small variety from the local conservation area

I saw three cottonmouths yesterday and a kingfisher but the shots of them I could have taken would not have been nearly as good as the ones I have already. But I did get a shot of what I believe is a small non venomous water snake.

Your small non venomous water snake has all the features of a pit viper.

By enlarging the photo, it appears to have slit or elliptical eye pupils.

This may be a young cottonmouth as this link states that young and juvenile cottonmouths look different than the adults with distinctive markings on their bodies. That's good to know.
