I have not figured out how to import/transfer RAW images from my iphone 6S to my mac for processing in ON1 Photo RAW. Anybody doing/know ho to do this ? I use Halide app on iphone to capture the RAW pix (allows manual control of camera settings).
Thanks for any suggestions.

I select the photos for sending by clicking on the box with the arrow on the top. Click on each photo you want to transfer and then click on "Air Drop" to see if your phone recognizes your computer. If so, you can air drop, if not, go to "Mail" and attach them to an email.

I connect my iPhone directly to the computer via a USB port. Lightroom recognizes the phone and will import the images just like it does with a card reader. You need to open LR first; then connect the phone. I assume other programs will work similarly

Load them into photos on your Mac then export the raw file to your desktop or appropriate folder. You have to be using iCloud but if it’s only for these transfers it’s free

Thanks much gang. Air Drop worked perfectly and transmitted to a DNG file (RAW equivalent). Will try the direct connect again - this is always dicy for me as either my USB/Lightning cable or USB ports must be misfiring - have trouble connecting and recognizing the iphone. Waiting for iphone 12 to upgrade.....

You guys are great, thanks.

Connect your iPhone to your mac using your lightning cable. Run 'Image Capture'. It's part of the mac's standard utilities. Drag and drop from your iPhone to any folder on your mac. So easy. Been using it for years

He is asking about raw photo format. How do you select raw format for air drop? I use air drop all the time and I don’t see any raw format images, only HEIF.

If you took some form of raw photo with your phone then selecting the image that you see and then sending it via AirDrop will send both versions if there are HEIC and raw. On the 6s which the OP has, the native camera app doesn't (yet?) do raw but some 3rd party apps do and can be set for raw, JPG/HEIC or both. My favorite app does either TIF or DNG as well as JPG/HEIC.

AirDrop is very fast and very easy but other methods work, too.

I can try to answer more specifically if I know more about the camera and computer. My phone is a 6s and my computer is a Mac (Catalina). I have good WiFi but I think AirDrop uses BlueTooth and needs close proximity.

Ah that explains it. You need the 3rd party App. Thank you for that info! 😀

I use the Halide app on my iphone which I set to RAW (another option is jpeg). I AirDropped the Halide RAW photo to my mac mini and opened the file (format is now DNG) and it is processing fine in ON1 PhotoRAW. Thanks

Agree and you can put them into the appropriate folder as you import them. As if you've stored them in the iPhone photo app from Halide they should already be in your photo app on your mac where you can export to a folder. If you want you can even process them in On1 directly from photos or use On1 as you dam or browser pointed at the folder you put them into. I actually prefer the browser method.

Use "Image Capture" in your Applications Folder. This will download HEIC files without converting them to jpeg. At the bottom of the screen you will have the option to specify the folder. You can download everything or just selected images. Since you already own it you may as well use it.

We went through iPhone cable hell for a while. $20, get an Apple-approved cable...fine print on the box. Not all cables are created equal. Also no need to wait for a phone upgrade. I think your problem is independent of that.

SalvageDiver: Yes, I can use Image Capture -- However, it doesn't seem to recognize or import RAW files. I just tested extensively by taking multiple images with the iphone 6 Halide app - same image taken in jpg and RAW - and all of them import to Image Capture by cable connection are labeled JPG and the same file size for both formatted images (3.8-4 MB). When I import them to the computer via AIRDROP, they come through as DNG (RAW) files at 12 MB. So it looks to me that Image Capture on my system treats all photos as jpg ?

I don't have Halide, so this may or may not apply. Either way, it may help others using third-party software with their iOS devices.

"How to transfer your photos" to a desktop machine will depend on the iOS app you are using. If the app stores its images in the "Photos" app, there are one set of options for transfer. If it doesn't there are other options.

If in the Photos app, there are plenty of ways. You can sync photos directly to Apple's desktop "photos" software. You can use "Image Capture" (comes with the Mac - check your "Utilities" folder in the "Applications" folder). You can also set a desktop application, such as Lightroom, to launch when you plug in your iOS device and import directly.

There are some apps, however, that do NOT store data in "Photos" - or make this an extra step. I have found this to be very common with video apps (Filmic Pro, same with DJI stuff last time I used that). These apps will store their data on the iOS device and require different ways to transfer.

Among other options, one is directly through the Finder. iTunes (now called "Music" in Mac OS) no longer handles communication between device and desktop.

Plug your iOS device into your Mac. Open a Finder window on the desktop. Look down the sidebar under the "locations" section (if you don't see that, go to the Finder-->Preferences menu. Check the boxes so these items appear in your sidebar). You will see your iOS device(s) listed here. Click on it and look in the window.

Here is where you sync iOS devices in the current Mac OS. Near the top of the window are several categories. Click on "Files." This will show a listing of apps on your devices that store data. Click the disclosure triangle for any of the apps and it will show the files for that app. You can then drag/copy those files to another location on your desktop.

Most apps should have other ways of accessing their files, but this should work on any app.
