canon 250d flash compatibility

Hi,

because of canon sl3 (250d) has no middle pin, it's not viable with my old manual flash. I can purchase old unique ordinance Speedlite 430ex for appr. 40$ or get some on Aliexpress, however I don't have the foggiest idea whether there is any viable at a comparative cost.

Do you have any involvement with the third party on this camera? (for instance Meike MK950 E-TTL)

Furthermore, will old models of Canon Speedlite work appropriately?

Much appreciated ahead of time.

Any Canon 'EX' model will "work" with your SL3. As described in the Flash Photography section of your manual starting on page 168, there may be some limitations for older EX models, such as when the EX flash is "not compatible with flash function settings." (page 174). Alas, the manual does not itemize the specific EX models that might not fully function. Those "flash function settings" are described beginning page 175 for things like controlling other flashguns, or changing the sync between the 1st vs 2nd shutter. You may find these potential limitations do not apply for an advanced flash like the 430EX, even for the 'mark I' model. Or, you may not ever miss them for your specific flash needs where $40 is a great price.

Sounds like a plan. OP indicates he would happily just use his old manual flash, but cannot. Surely any Canon EX flash with a few features disabled is at least as useful as his old manual flash.

A quick Google search online brings back lots of info about this, including some sites detailing which specific Canon flashes work and third party flash manufacturers who are modifying their flashes to work on the SL3 and some similar models (Rebel T7/2000D/1500D is another I'm aware of).
