Prototype Yellow Filter Testers Wanted

"Chopsticks Optional"

Performed another test while using the newly created "yellow" space age material as a 85mm filter in a Cokin "P" adapter.

In a few months I'll be giving away a hand full of these yellow filters to black & white photographers for testing purposes. I need photographers willing to test this yellow filter in a variety of light sources and write up a review of the filter based on your testing/experiments. The yellow filter has some sharp edges and I'm working on correcting this.

I'm not able to compensate those testing with the filter for me, other than offering the filter in exchange for the test and review of the product. The main requirement is that one must live in USA as I'm not willing to ship over seas at this time. The testing photographer/s must have an 85mm Cokin "P" drop in filter adapter or alternative 85mm adapter. as holding the filter in front of the lens will create some distortion.

If you're interested in being a product tester, please verify within this thread that you're interested. There will be a limited first run of filters and they will be randomly sent to subscribers who forward their mailing address. However, because of the limited run, there is one way we can get others involved in this. We could allot a week or two of testing by one photographer/s, then that photographer/s wrap up the filter and send it to another photographer for testing.

Again this is a limited first run, and there could be deformities, sharp edges and a limited supply. To those interested and receive the filter, please post your review comments in this same thread afterward. Add as much detail to your review, likes and dislikes etc Please include your images within your review. Also, testers must be established forum members with experience in black & white photography.

I'm in the UK so ineligible for testing, but I thought it might be worth mentioning the possibility of adding IR testing to what you get done...

I believe yellow filters are sometimes sold as super high color filters for IR.

Certainly I've used yellow, orange & red on my Full spectrum camera. All are usually long pass types, wratten #6 & some dichroic filters are the only yellows I've come across that aren't longpass.

Update:

I wanted to thank all those who sent PMs to become participated in this prototype experiment. However and because of my own testing, the yellow filter has not performed as I would had hoped. Furthermore and on the bright side, the polarization filter has performed superbly and better than expected. In this light I'm discontinuing the yellow filter and focusing on the polarization filter instead. So to all those who wanted the yellow filter, you may end up with the polarization filter instead. Check the images within our travel thread. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-669025-1.html#11641543 All of these image where taken with the polarization filter.

Update:

Just wanted to let everyone who's patriating in the filter test for me, I haven't forgotten you. (SteveFranz & PixelStan77) Although many will use covid as an excuse, I wont or I didn't. But our supplier did. So there's been a delay in getting the filters to me for the final touch. We're looking to get another batch within the next two weeks then I send them out.

Thanks again for your support.

Update:

Been inspecting the latest batch of filters and I'm not pleased with the results. Most have imperfections, bubbles within the cast and incorrect mill specs. However I was able to locate a couple of "usable" filters and I cleaned them up. We're currently in the process of creating a static bag of sort for the filter and may elect to create a box for storage at a later date.

Again these filters are approx 35% "fixed" polarization filters with tinted sides to them. I can't divulge what film was used to create these filters but it is extremely fragile and will scratch easily. These filters have been crudely cut with sharp edges. I've contacted the manufacture of our filters to see if they can correct the milling process. Till that time, I've filed down the sharp edges as much as possible. By no means is this the finished product, But If I can't locate a company that takes pride in the manufacturing of these filters for us and yet keep the cost low, I may discontinue this project.

These filters will fit the Cokin "P" adapter or alterative with a 85mm width range. The most important part about the filter is that it has a grayish/silver side and a golden side. The greyish side mounts towards the camera while the golden side faces the direction of the subject. If you invert the filter you will not get the polarization effect.

Warning, Even though I've had to file down some sharp edges, there are still some edged that are sharp. great care needs to be take when sliding the filter into the Cokin etc lens mount. It is subjected that you remove the Cokin mount from the lens when installing the filter. Be sure to handle the filter from the edges. USE only the finest microfiber towels to remove smudges. Make sure the microfiber towel down not have rough edges as this will mar/scratch the filter itself.

If sold, there's no refunds or exchanges as these are prototypes. We/Me/I can not be held responsible cuts due to any sharp edges on these filters when installing into the filter mount as these are demo units and need to be refined. As you can see I'm using rubber gloves to help hold and protect the filters when installing into the Cokin mount. It would be suggested that once the filter has been installed into the mount, leave it in the mount, unscrew the mount from the lens and wrap with a microfiber towel and store in a safe place for next time.

If you do not have a Cokin filter mount, Amazon and other sites have what is called "Ranger" set which has a verity of sized lens adapters which fit into the plastic Cokin mount. Make sure you select the correct sized lens adapter before installing.

The camera settings are totally up to you when using this filter. I allowed my Canon M6 to auto adjust to take my images. The attached image shows what this filter can down when used with water. There's a slight glassy effect to the water when using this filter. NOTE: Your results may vary.

Once the packaging has been completed, we'll mail the first set of filters to those whom are patriating in doing a test run for us. Please be critical when writing a review as this will better help us create a better filter in the future. To those of you interested in take part in the testing phase of this filter, we thank you so much for your support.

To Whom This May Concern, Please excuse the crudely done means of package the filters, as we're still in the development stage. Filters will be mailed this weekend (Sat 17th) and you should get them the following week.

Enjoy the filters and let us know your thoughts.

There's be another delay in shipping these filters to our testers. The issue this time, we forgot to have address labels printed and we'll have to wait till the following weekend to print then ship these. I was able to find a felt draw sting bag thats the same size as the filters, but this first batch does not have the bags. if you want the bags after you test the filters please let us know. Otherwise you'll have to wait one more week (if not sooner) to get these filters.

In other news, the rubber stamp arrived with our logo and I'll be stamping the bags once they arrive. Also, our pictures were sent out last week from printing and they've just return. This new printing company did and excellent job and their colors system/printers are spot on unlike Michaels or other printing companies we've tried. However, the prints being nearly poster size did not come with a white boarder around them, so I've summitted a request to have them reprinted with this boarder.

Images like the one below, where i used the new polarization filter turned out great. very clear and colorful just as you see it. We're having this and other prints framed very soon.
