WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM QUESTION

Well, I did it! When my 10 year old custom built Windows 7 desktop pooped out I decided to get modern & buy a windows 10 computer. 99% of what I use it for is Photoshop 6. Anyway, I hated Windows 10, returned it, had my Windows 7 fixed & I'm almost happy again. Here's the rub: When I started with Windows 10 it linked Google (my GMail) to my android phone to synch. (almost done).....now when I open my Google mail on my desktop I must open my phone, acknowledge that it's me & enter one of three numbers to prove that I'm not a liar. All I've been able to find on UTUBE is for Windows 10. HELP!!!! Thanks.

It has been too long since I used Windows 7 but I would think you could delete the link from your phone.

You (via the computer) probably set up multi-factor authentication in your Google account. When you are in Gmail on your PC go to the top right and click on your profile icon and "Manage your Google Account".

From there check under the "Security" tab to see if either "Use your phone to sign in" or "2-step Verification". I'm not sure if that will fix it, but from what you described it may be one or both of those options.

What's the big deal about switching from Windows 7 to Windows 10? The apps are just in a different place. If you want, put your commonly used ones on the desktop.

Everything else works differently. Cryptic, not intuitive as it is very different from 7.

I am using Windows 7. There is no way to see the icons or tabs you mention because they are not there. There is no profile icon in the upper right. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to reply but like all before to you the instructions do not apply.

Open any browser (internet explorer, Firefox, Chrome, edge, etc..) and go to Gmail. It will be there and it is not operating system specific.

I find that everything in Windows 7 is in Windows 10. It's just located differently and requires a little getting used to is all. The good thing about it is constant updates that keep the system up to date. As I said, any apps that you use regularly can be put on the desktop. For instance, I've put Excel and Word there for easy access. However, I did like Windows 7 quite a bit, so if it works for you I'm not going to suggest that you change.

Oh, I'm keeping Win 7 on my laptop and desktop until they die, but my wife's laptop committed suicide and her new one is Win 10.

I've found an excellent virus defender. BitDefender. It's kept my computer running smoothly for years with no problems. When I had McAfee it was always freezing up.
