Recently, my wife acquired a new computer. We have a Western Digital back up device (MyCloud) that we have been using successfully to make synchronous backups of our data. This has been through a program from WD called WDSync. When I went to the WD web site to download a version for the new computer, I discovered that they no longer produce it but referred me to the GoodSync site for a program called WD GoodSync. It seems to work well, only a couple of weeks of experience.
I decided that it would be a good idea to use the same program on all of our computers. Mistakenly, I downloaded the regular version of GoodSync onto our backup/travel computer and discovered that it can do lots more than the WD version, which is just a replacement for WDSync. It appears that the WDSync replacement (WD GoodSync) is free but that the regular version is free with certain significant restrictions.
Do any of you have experience with GoodSync? Any comments or suggestions? Is the paid version worth it?
Thanks in advance.
I've been using the paid version of GoodSync for years and use it as my go to program for backing up data and photo files to the cloud and to remote hard drives. I have it set to auto update online files and also to sync photos on three different computers. The developers of the software are constantly on top of new areas that it can be used in and quick to fix any problems that arise. I've found it worth every penny that it cost. It's one of the "must have" programs that is on all my computers.
I used Microsoft's free SyncToy 2.1 for years. It worked. It apparently still works but has not be upgraded in 10 years. I decided to try the paid version of GoodSync. It will do the same and do it well. But, it has a lot more features and options that need a little study.

No sense being redundant - you said what I would have.
I have been using it quite successfully for a few years. If you want to know more about it Tim Grey has a tutorial on GoodSync and he highly recommends it.

Another thing - the service dept. responds quickly and provides very good assistance.
I have 3 external HD's, one a Peerless portable, that are my primary places of storage. I have Good Sync back up certain C drive files to one of them; I have good sync back up my external HD's to two Seagate 4TB portables on a timed schedule. I periodically switch out the Seagate's and the Peerless. The only issue I have, and its minor, is that when Microsoft updates is Good Sync is not restarted -
I too have been using the paid version of GoodSync on all my computers for years and I'm very happy with it. There is a moderate learning curve to setting it up correctly especially if you want multiple backups and different categories of backups.
It's really not for people who want simple backup software that they can baically plug in and forget. You need to set up the backup jobs by naming a job, indicating the source of the backup, the destination of the backup, whether you're backing up or syncing data ( a major distinction), whether you're automating it, etc. There are dozens of options and various setup scenarios.
While I love using this program, I suspect most people who are not tech savvy, or not very detail-oriented, might struggle with GoodSync.
