When I first saw this snake I wasn't sure what kind it was until I was post processing the image. It is a cottonmouth covered with dead green vegetation that floats on top of the water in a small area of the lake. Glad I didn't pick it up thinking it was harmless.😬 This Monarch looks more healthy than the one I posted yesterday.

Very Nice (but I'll pass on the snake).

At least the snakes (Rattlesnakes) here in California warn you with sound and are usually shy and try to move away. Surprising or stepping on them is the problem (for People, Horses, and Dogs). Most others here are harmless. And people make pets of the native Rosy Boas.

Thanks all for looking. Mike, snakes don't bother me as long as I can see them but the area where I go has many cottonmouths and there's not enough money to entice me to walk in the tall weedy areas. I've had a couple close encounters already by not watching where I was stepping.

Good selection. Glad to know somewhere has air you actually go outside longer than you can hold your breath to get the mail or pickup the package just dropped on the doorstep. I hope our delivery drivers have good industrial spec masks, better yet just have a full face divers mask and a scuba tank.

Thanks Robert. I know those of you on the West coast are going through some very rough times and my heart goes out to all of you.

Thank you.

Actually here in my part of So Cal the bad air index is only up to 150-200. Up in Norther California, Washington, Oregon and the places downwind of them it is double or triple that and the air is humid which makes it a breathable toxic soup.

Excellent series!
That moccasin shot is, indeed, unique!
You must be in way-south Illinois!
