Just wanted to let all interested persons know that this Oct 1st is the full harvest moon. So plan accordingly.
See you on the trail

Lets hope the weather supports us on the trail?
Hope you get some comparison shots that clearly show the special qualities of a full Harvest Moon !
Acoarst a full moon on the first day of the month means a Blue Moon before the month is over. Maybe you can capture its special qualities as well. And then you’ll still need a regular moon for comparison. Gets to be a two-month long project that way. The comparison moon will be full around Turkey Day ... if we actually have that this year.
I always find the full moon a somewhat disappointing subject. When the moon is only ~3/4 full the grazing light gives much better definition of craters etc.
I usually try and photograph moons with interesting colors one day and maybe two days before actual full moon date. Why? On full moon day, the moonrise is after sunset. The day before the moon rises before sunset so you get some ambient light during moonrise. It still looks full.
Depending on atmospheric conditions where you are, the color of the moon may vary depending on whether there is ambient light present or not. Do it two or three days if you can.
I live in Nevada, I hope I will be able to see the moon through the smoke. Haven't seen the sky in 3 weeks give or take.

Or you can just keep reusing that full moon shot from 6 years ago. Nobody will know.
SuperflyTNT true, but the objective (my objective in this case) is to inform others that might want to get out and make preparations to take image of the harvest moon. Last year I missed the harvest moon because I was not prepared. This year weather permitting, I should have ample time to set up for a shot in an ideal location.

Acoarst, detailwise and aesthetically you are quite right but peeps seem to always expect something special from a named moon, and named moons are full moons
I’ve never seen what’s so special just by looking, but I am expecting that a few enthusiastic Hogsters will capture and post it for all to see. Until then I remain rather indifferent to moons with names. IOW ... “Show me !”

I’ll pretend I didn’t see that.
I still remember that moon from 2014. If anyone recycles it, I’m sure someone will recognize it and show their own version of it as proof. So everybody gear up !

I think everybody does that full moon pic once. I’ll give them that one.
