SD Card Slot on Nikon D500

Has anyone had a similar problem? The SD500 has two memory card slots. One for the XQD, the other for a standard SD card. In the past couple of weeks, the SD card will not lock into the slot. I have tried several cards and neither can be loaded. Any advice or has anyone experienced similar issues? Thanks for your assistance.

I have had my D500 for over a year now and no problems. I don't normally remove the card for any reason. It is 128gb and feel no need to remove it. I'm parnoid about camera wear. Although the usd wears also.

I don’t have a D500 but I have had many cameras with SD slots remove them carefully to download on a regular basis. I have not ever had that happen. Something is keeping the card from latching in. I think maybe something is broken or jammed. Look inside closely? See if you can see any obstruction. Maybe someone here will have an answer.

SD card sockets have a "push-push" toggle to lock and release the card. Most likely there is something in the slot preventing the card from pushing all the way down to trigger the lock. Next most likely is that the the card has become worn or broken, not allowing part of it to reach far enough to trigger the lock. Final possibility is that the lock mechanism has failed. So I'd check to make sure there is nothing in the slot, compare the card to another to see if part of it is missing, then call Nikon service for assistance.

I also had that problem once on my d7200. Sure enough there was a tiny piece of an SD card in the bottom corner of the slot.

Be sure to remove the battery before putting anything in the slot or you may short a couple of contacts and have a more serious problem.

I have used a d500 SINCE SHORTLY AFTER ITS RELEASE AND FREQUENTLY TAKE BOTH THE sd AND xqd CARDS IN AND OUT, NEVER WITH ANY PROBLEM. NIKON HAS A 48HR SUPPORT LINE ON ITS WEB SITE. I WOULD SHOOT A NOTE TO THEM AND SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS, INCLUDING THE SERVICE ISSUE.

Have you tried using a different card to validate it is not the present card? Or if you have a second camera, try the existing card in that slot.....Rule out the cheapest & fastest replacement of the issue

No offense intended. Are you putting the card in slot correctly? The corner with the the right angle needs to be on a particular side for the card to go in. Flipping it over, in effect moves it to the other side.
