We took a job in Southern California for a few months. I was excited to be in the far southern desert and away from light pollution. Well I forgot about Mexicali 20 miles southeast. Here are two comparison shots. First is toward Mexicali using 14mm f4 at 2.5 sec 3200 ISO. YES 2.5 sec
The second is looking west southwest toward San Diego, 14mm f4 at 25 sec 3200 ISO. YES 25 sec
At least from the meridian to the west I'll still be able to get decent skies...as soon as the smoke clears.

Hi alberio
Welcome to California, just don't breath the air right now. The smoke is horrible.

Hahaha, I'll see what's worse, breathing or not breathing.
I assume you are fairly close to Cleveland National Forest, check that out. There is also Borrego Springs not too much further.

Just west of El Centro at Rio Bend RV Resort.
Oh yes, you are within driving distance to some really dark skies. Just gotta wait on the smoke to clear.

Thanks for the heads up on locations. I'm used to dark Arizona shies and the best i have ever seen were on Mauna Kea Hawaii.

Shies?
You sound like me any given time past noon. Hey, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.
Sorry your location disappoints.
I was hoping several years ago when I went to Joshua Tree NP. But it was kind of a bust when the morongo's showed up.
Still, I let my DSLR run all night. And I got a nice set of images to play with.
I'm waiting for an Aircraft and Satellite Filter to come out...
And the smoke to clear...

I thought everyone knew what Shies are 🙂🙂🙂. We went to the moon 50 years ago, but still can't rely on spell checker. I guess we have to revert back to proof reading everything. I'm still hopefull for good shies and just found a decent location just 20 miles farther west.
