Wind at 40 MPH with some places getting gusts way above that. Dry conditions and some fire assets out of state to help others. Huge fires with 2 thousand fire fighters that would normally have 6 thousand if we had the assets. Some towns gone.

Any time we have strong dry east winds on top of a drought this can happen.

Caught in evacuation with 101 closed N of Newport Wednesday. Abandoned our mission and fled home to ID. Smoke awful.

A 2,400+ acre fire that touched the north end of Lincoln City caused the road closure. Now that the wind has died down and we’re getting moist onshore flow they’re getting a handle on it. Wind is everything with these conflagrations. The Tillamook Burn covered 350,000 acres in four fires over a period of 18 years. We have burned 300,000 acres in a matter of just a few days.

I think this one is around 135000 acres. It is trying to merge with another. The closest one and smaller one is under control as of yesterday but the big one still looms. Cool temps higher humidity and low winds has gotten it less of a threat. The little one was a little over a mile away and the big one about 6. They tried to evacuate most of Clackamas county. We chose not to go for some specific reasons of available fuel near our house and that I have experience fighting fire and know what to look for. With high winds you don't want to press your luck. Once they died it is more predictable.

And another frightening part of all this is that it’s just the beginning of fire season on the west coast.
