Durango Train, Departure-Road Trip 2012

Couple of trains heading out.
I didn't ride the train on this trip.

Some hiker/campers were going to get off about half way.
Backpacks stored away.

In the past I've seen a group of fishermen that we picked up on return trip.

Once in the fall, stopped to pickup some hunters. They had a couple of large ices chests and a set of fresh elk antlers. They were going to Silverton.

So, stops are common.

I enjoy the heck out of watching these old engines pull out!!
The sounds! Smell of burning coal!!

During the summertime, there is usually, three trains that pull out. About 45 minutes apart.

Jay, on the last photo, that guy in the hard hat looks like a giant. What give with that? He is head and shoulders over the rest of the people. Just curious. You photos are great. I have always wanted to take that trip.
