This lens would stay on your camera 95% of the time. A 50mm f1.8 is excellent for low light situations and works great indoors for that reason taking photos of family and grandkids. There is an amazing difference between 2.8 and 1.8.

I have owned the 28-300mm since I purchased my first dslr, the d7000. It is a fantastically versatile lens, esp. on vacations, and works well on my D800 when I need something more than the 24-70.

In my humble estimation it's who you shoot, the team you use and the worth of a breathtaking visual statement that actually matters for fashion renderings... btw, I personally found that absolutely no VR can surpass the acuity gained by a massive tripod, mirror up and remote release... experience is a brutal teacher.... Yes I shoot either a monopod with VR Pro level glass (zoom limited to only 3x max) or tripod for location fashion editorial...

All the best on your journey CO...

I have a D750 and use the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens on it. Very few prime lenses have stabilization. The vibration compensation and large maximum aperture make it a great low light lens. It also has a metal lens barrel and is fully weather sealed including a weather seal at the lens mount. I have taken photos as slow as 1/30 second. The vibration compensation kept the image rock steady.

Nice shot - I also love the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC - great little lens and great bang for the buck - you can often get it new for $399.

Moving from DX to FX, specifically D7200 to D750. Starting off with a Nikon 85 (1.8), Sigma 150-600, and a Nikon 28-300. Mainly shoot grand kids/family get togethers, vacations, landscapes, and wild life when the opportunity presents itself. Not looking to go overboard at this time, I just want a couple 3 lens to work with (not counting the Sigma). With an 85 do I also need a 50 or 35? What about a wide angle for landscapes what's your recommendation(s) prime or telephoto? When I was shooting DX my walk around was a Tamron 18-400, and that's why I opted for the 28-300. Want to try my hand at family portraits, and I have been asked to take pictures of a new great granddaughter on her "birth" day in November (not sure what that is going to involve at this point in time ). Thanks in advance for your kind input.

Since you do not want a lot of lenses you should go with zooms.

Since you are already familiar with Tamron, if you do go with a 24-70 2.8 consider the SP G2 24-70 2.8 from Tamron - it has great IQ and excellent VC (stabilization) and is much less expensive than the Nikon.

If you want more of a walk around lens get the Nikkor 24-120 F/4 lens - it was originally the lens they sold with the D750 and I think it is the lens they are coupling even now with the new D780. It is a pretty good lens across the board - you can still get pretty good bokeh for portraits at the longer end and the range is more versatile than the 24-70 - both would likely serve you just fine.

Tripod, mirror up feature, and remote are definitely is the way to go. I like the Tamron 45mm because the combination of large max aperture and vibration compensation are great for hand holding the camera is low light conditions.

Thanks. What camera or cameras do you use the Tamron on? It's on sale for $399 now. I forgot now if I paid the full price of $599 or the sale price.
