I have been trying this software (Open source) to remote control my cameras (D500 & D 850).

So far I am ok with it yet I wonder...

If anyone is using it or used it, what are your comments and evaluation (good or bad).

It didn't like my relatively new HP laptop, or is that the other way around? I don't remember if there were any error messages, but it just wouldn't launch. It worked on my very old Dell D530 laptop, but I was annoyed by the software stuttering from time to time on this old machine. Not fast enough. Not enough RAM. I used it to photograph many negatives and slides with a macro lens over a light box. I would turn off the camera from time to time to conserve the battery, and I found that this could interrupt the data transfer to the camera if I didn't wait for the last picture to be finished. I'd occasionally get a partial picture.

I suspect that it would run fine on a newer machine, but not the one I tried to run it on. I don't know what the issue was.

I use it with a D500 and an old laptop that struggles a bit with W10. Mostly I find it very good but the last time I tried it the camera won't refocus in the small increments. Happy to swap notes if you PM me.

We (wife & I) tried using DigiCam Control (DCC, free software) to control 2 Nikons (DSLR) for our Zoom fly-tying classroom. It has some good features but unfortuneately for us the resulting live streaming to the customer was "herky jerky" especially when using it within the Screen Share function of Zoom. Since this less than good result, we've found OBS Studio (free software) to work much better for our live-streaming classes. We never did use the focus function within the DCC software because all of our camera work is streaming macro live view so we use the manual focus function on camera so we can't comment about the focusing capabilities of the program. Thank you. I did not think of using this as a video tool.

I am somewhat aware of OBS but I have hit a wall there.... I wanted to get a keyboard capture display and it does not seem to be one that covers the whole keyboard... The two plug in i found create an overlay for gamers...

I used it when shooting my Nikon D810 and I truly enjoyed it. It was my go-to means of controlling the camera and tuning in the focus for my focus stacking sessions. Sadly it does not function with the Fujifilm X-T20 that I use now and I miss it so.

I evaluated it along with along with Capture One and Lightroom when I was looking for a tethering solution. I tested it on an old Dell with an i5 processor and 12 gigs of ram. I found it a bit sluggish and as a stand alone app a bit less feature rich than Capture One. If you shoot only Nikon, Sony, or Fugifilm exclusively, Capture One has versions that are dedicated to that manufacturer at a very attractive price.

I'm still a beginner but I'm satisfied. The software is doing what I need it to do for astrophotography. The performance seems good. I'm using it on a relatively new i7 laptop. I'm not able to make adjustments to ISO with it.
