This was taken Sunday on Narragansett bay while out shooting the Classic boat regatta. All my shots were taken with the Canon R and an EF 70 -200 F2.8 IS II both with and without a 1.4 TC. However, since I had it with me I couldn't resist trying my brand new 800mm F11. The sea conditions were about as lumpy as I have experienced while photographing and I have notoriously shaky hands. The lens was really too long for the situation but this was an opportunity to see what the IS could do. Based on this one try, I am happy with my purchase and look forward to using this lens on a gimbaled tripod with my new R5 (if it ever gets delivered). I am posting this picture because I think that this lens could be a game changer. At less than 900 dollars for a light weight 800mm with an effective image stabilizer. I look forward to seeing results of this lens in the hands of much more experienced photographers than me.

I like the Sailing lifestyle. Thanks
Great shot! Thanks for sharing.
Great shot, AF. Would like to see the shot larger, but it looks great hear. Sounds like a fun event to photograph. Any more photos of it you plan to post?
When I shoot regattas I usually use a 15-85 or 70-200L. The 15-85 is perfect for shooting crew or other boats that are a few boat lengths away. The 70-200 is a bit long for shooting anyone in the boat (maybe a head shot) but is perfect for most competitors.
I only trying bringing my Sigma 150-600 once. I found it very challenging to frame a shot due to boat movement.
Your shot looks great - would love to see it original size.
Thanks for looking. As I said in the post, I shot nearly all day with the EF 70 - 200 adapted to the R camera and I have several hundred shots that I like. I only used this lens because I bought it two days before the regatta and this was the first time even holding it. The seas were very high as you can see and the boat that we were on had a lot of motion. The Professional that was hosting the workshop advised against using it but understood that I wanted to try it. The posted picture is pretty much un cropped except for a little bit on the left hand side. By the way, I did have a good 24 -105 L available but changing lenses was a bit arduous so I really didn’t use it much. I should have taken a second body with that lens.
