D700 troubles

Howdy, I’ve been a Nikon user for over 30 years now and I,m having some troubles with my Nikon D700. 1st some back ground, I have had it since new, 2015. I haven't had any troubles with it till now. I have taken 14419 shots with it, it’s never been dropped or submerged, only had 1 lens on it, Nikon 28-300mm.

Yesterday I was going to take a small hike close to home along the river (Columbia). At home I dropped a battery in it from the charger, turned it on, The top panel came on, went around to the back clicked the menu button “nothing” clicked all he rest, the same. Checked the top again, it was still on.

So I went outside and took a few shots, the camera worked fine, went back in, hooked the card up to my computer and the raw images where there, nothing wrong with them.

Back inside and I have David Busch’s Nikon D700 manual, open that up and I couldn’t find anything in there concerning the trouble, any ideas what the problem could be.

Thanks in advance for any help, but I’m pretty sure I know where it has to go.

My first suspicion is that the membrane switch under your memory button may have reached the end of its life. You might try pressing it with a little bit of extra force (but don't try to break it).

My second suggestion is to check your battery to see if it might be agiong a little bit. Miight be a alittle bit short on power.

Lots of folks here jump to the "two button reset." I don't. But this is exactly the sort of situation it is put on the camera to handle.

If you have another / newer battery it might solve the problem. I had an issue with an older battery where it appeared to be charged but would not bring up the monitor screen though I could still take photos. Tossed it.

Thanks Pal that was "Quix" I couldn't resist. Well your suggestion is worth a try. That's exactly what mine is doing no monitor but still takes the picture!

What part of Montana is home for you! 5 miles to the border for me>

Thanks Again

I'll give the button thing a try first then get another battery!

Are you trying to say; the rear display does not illuminate?

Have you used a non Nikon vertical grip on your D700?

My d750 acted up, very much the same. Variously no response to buttons or had to hold them down for several seconds to get a result. Universal first step is remove the battery for two minutes. In my case that restored everything back to normal.
