For anyone wishing to get MS Flight Simulator, I recommend the DOWNLOAD (which I did) over getting the DVD set for installation. Reason is: if you install from the DVD set, then every time you launch the Simulator, you would need to have the first DVD in the drive, just to confirm that you are licensed....and that would be a big pain in the arse.

The download took my system about 4 hours for 91 GB of data (airplanes and airports), but I've heard of some taking up to 24 hours. Still better than the DVD install, IMO.

Loading Flight Simulator might be a tough go. I guess the graphics are high end. Various planes various flight decks and more airports than you can shake a stick at. Every day it seems that a newer, faster graphic card is on the market. And the heat they generate I’m going to boil some water on top of my computer. To all those armchair pilots, enjoy your program. I’m not knocking it!

Happy Shooting!

As a former private pilot (last flew in 1978), I also am interested in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 which has excellent reviews. I looked at the 3 versions, and am opting for the Standard version (lowest price of $60.00)...which has a few fewer airplanes and airports...I can live with that.

However, the hardware needed to have a good sim experience adds up quickly. In research, I found the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke is the best at $250. The Logitech Rudder at $170. and the Logitech Throttle at $60.

Add it all up ... comes to > $500 for such a joy ride!

Hardware! That's what I was afraid of. I can't imagine using it with a mouse or the arrow keys.

EDIT: Unbelievable!

I flew a 737 in a REAL simulator at the old Northwestern headquarters (NATCO) in Minneapolis. Nothing comes close to what that thing could do. When I was done flying the plane, I wanted to buy one of those things. The price tag was astronomical !!
