Went out to water the flora and Dona at my brothers house here in Sacramento where I’m visiting at his place for 80days .., And this poor guy is already showing the anticipation of the highest temperature ever recorded in the month of September here in Sacramento.

Projections are 111-114 degrees today by 4pm ... with the highest being 109 in the month of September recorded many years ago ...

Wow! Makes me glad I no longer live in the Sacramento area. Although I now live near the coast in Southern California and it is projected to be 101 today, which is unheard of here.

I’m supposed to be out on the coast at my brothers other property “Fort Bragg” , but the Building contractor said this was his only weekend free ..so My brother met the contractor to build on a new wing and extended deck .., I’m babysitting the 2 golden retrievers and a cool cat named “Raider”

101 in LA is a scorcher ...I lived in LA on and off and Mission Viejo say 15 years worth ...I know the drill ..not to mention I was a fireman in Ventura and at LAX airport ....l saw real heat .. 😎👍

A bit inland (Corona in Riverside County) yesterday I forgot to check until after 4 PM when it is supposedly already cooling off and it was 118 on my patio in the shade. Today is predicted to be hotter.

I will look to see what happens in the high desert and Death Valley. Maybe a new record - Furnace Creek in Death Valley has the highest temp with in history - 134 F back in July 1913. Death Valley already had a verified 130 in August this year. Third highest on record in the world which would give Death Valley the #1 and #3 spot on the high temp record charts.

Back in the early 70's I went to death valley with a Field Geography class and we did go to Furnace Creek. The Prof had told everyone to wear only shoes or boots with composite soles like the military and firefighter etc wear or leather soles. One grad student didn't listen and after the guy left footprints of melted material from his fashionable walking shoes on a large flat slab of dark stone the prof sent his assistant to drive the guy to the sporting goods store in the nearest town with instructions "Buy the right kind of shoes or catch a bus back to LA." When he tried to apologize to the rangers about the foot prints they told him not to worry too much, there were lots of those kinds of foot prints around the valley.

We moved to the Sierra Foothills from Sacramento and it gets even better up here. It's only going to be 106 here today, but PG&E is telling us to expect our power to be turned off starting tomorrow night for 2 days because the wind is supposed to kick up. No power in a heat wave for two days.

Yep, it's hot and a good day to go to the beach (if you were closer). Our AC is working overtime.

Nice photo BTW. Like this one, most of the Agapanthus have gone to seed now.

Reached 112 here in the east county of San Diego today. It's 108 now at 1:14pm and we have a big fire burning just east of us.

My temp on the patio is now 116 and will go up for 2-3 hours yet, in a little while I am turning off everything (including this computer) but AC and fans in hopes of helping prevent a brown out or black out of power. I am certain our household is one of a small minority doing so, but we have to make an effort.
I will power back up after sundown.

Do yourself a favor, get a generator. Even a small one makes life much more pleasant. I bought a generator back around Y2K. We had a power failure that ran for a couple of days and killed a prize Koi. Haven't been without one since. At the moment I have 3, S/M/L.

I have considered it and probably should do that. I am diabetic and keeping my insulin refrigerated is a top priority. It is just that around here the paperwork etc is a royal pain because of the store of fuel you need to keep.

Get a multi fuel - they will run off a either a small LP tank like one for a gas grill or gasoline. Don't know anything about CA rules, but I bet gas grills are common.

There are plenty of gas grills in California. There are plenty of propane tanks attached to houses in rural areas. You can either use those small tanks designed for a gas grill, or you can connect your grill to your main propane tank with an adapter hose.

Having said that, I've discussed a whole house generator with someone who wanted to sell me one when I installed Solar. If run off of propane, it would suck up 4 gallons of propane an hour. I suppose you do what you have to do, but I'm still thinking about it. I'd need a much bigger tank than I have.

I have a whole house generator, wonderful! Yes, I have a good sized LP tank, but the longest it has run is a few hours. Power companies out here are very good. The generator automatically starts every Monday morning to charge its battery and check function. There is a minute delay to handle power fluctuations, so you'll probably need to reset computers, clocks, etc. even if you don't actually loose power. I can recall living in an older suburb where one house was lit like a cruise ship in power outages - they had some sort of commercial generator because a family member had been in an "iron lung" from polio. Made a generator a must have for me living in the country.

The power company where I live (PG&E) has been responsible for burning up whole towns during wind events. They have not kept their lines clear of vegetation that has grown up around them, and some of their equipment itself is not safe. So now they turn off the power in some rural areas for days at a time when it is dry and windy. They're already bankrupt from the lawsuits over the fires. They've been doing some tree clearing and equipment upgrades, but they admit that it will take years to finish what they should have been doing all along. In the meantime, people like me will have to do without power for days at a time on their whim. It looks like Tuesday and Wednesday this week. It's HOT outside.
