the last couple of days I have watched this play out this guy would chase all comers off then ship a little then he would zip off to a nearby tree or he will perch himself here and to chase others off

Years ago visiting Fallbrook CA in a house with a cupola a hummer guarded a feeder near the Northside breakfast nook driving off all comers. We solved that by hanging another feeder outside the Southside dining room window & poor hummer was exhausted clearing away intruders. Finally he compromised and we were kept busy making sugar solution.
