I hunted for an image to convert to B&W. Not sure I made the right choice, as this one is pretty busy. So what do you think? Does it work as a B&W?

Thank you. That's encouraging.

Kathy, Has great tonal range and good composition. It works!
Technically seems really good! Did you view any tutorials ahead of time, and do you have any tips for other Silver Efex novices? Did you enjoy the process and will you do more?
Since you mentioned "busy," it is a bit for me: there are a lot of elements that are similar size and tone. You could play with some selective dodge and burn.
Alternative to dodge and burn: in Silver Efex there are those colored filters if you didn't get a chance to try. Clicking the green one would lighten your foliage. If there is red in the rocks, then the red one might lighten those areas. Click through them, after applying the "neutral" pre-set (top on the left), next time you get a chance. Pretty cool

Actually, I simply dove in! I did play around a tad while I was there. I did lighten some, but I honestly don't remember what. I do think it's too busy for a really good black and white. It needs stronger outlines and definite edges. I'm still looking. . . . Thanks.
It looks really nice in download.
A tough shot to convert with all those leaves, Kathy. It looks good, but LFM's comment about the color filters might help define the leaves.
Nice image for a first attempt Kathy. I agree that it is a little busy. The only real problem I see is with the sky. Applying a red(?) filter in Silver Efex will help. I usually prepare the photo in color before converting to B&W.

I didn't even know about the coloured filters when I did this one. Since then I've learned a little! If I liked this image enough in B&W, I might redo it. But I'm not sure it's worth it. I might, though, just for the fun of it.

I was sort of arguing with myself about the sky. If I made it more dramatic, would it fight with the "hero" of the scene that is the butte? I decided to leave it. I'll admit, it's a pretty humdrum sky!
