Since this is in General Chit-Chat.

Coming soon; Christmas.

What would be a different party for a group setting of around 35-40 persons?
We've had the Dirty Santa, card games (didn't like as there were too many tables and not socializing with the group as a whole).
Gift exchange, man on man and woman on woman.
Gift exchange: man buys woman's gift and woman buys man gift.

What about a meal?
Catered, Pot Luck, meat furnished by club, bring a side dish, go out to club, stage show, etc.?

Really need something different that EVERYONE would ENJOY!

The group ages range from 35 to 85, men and women. Most everybody is married. we do have 3 or 4 that are not married.

Let me know please.
Thanks in advance!

How about a Halloween theme - everyone in masks and 6 feet apart.

JohnS, no, i do not think the virus to be completely over by Christmas, altho, rumor spreading seems to running the lines of a vaccine.

The city and club we have is small compared and we all know each other and trust each other too.

We were at church last night, there were probably 45+ there, four people including me had a mask on, only because there were several out of town folks that I did not know.

Thanks for the reply too
Dave

Probably not, so maybe some kind of party based on masks or distancing. Identify people from a distance?

I was in Costco a few days ago and they were putting up Christmas stuff already and there's still three weeks of summer left.

We have got a lot of laughs and competition from a game with gifts. Several names for it, Chinese Christmas gift exchange or white elephant gift exchange... rules on line. Basically, you bring a wrapped gift (usually $ limit set) and put them in a pile... draw numbers for sequence and when it’s your turn you either take a gift from pile or take a gift from someone who has already selected/unwrapped one.... then they get to take a gift... and this can continue, so one “turn” can be several exchanges if people are taking from someone instead of the pile. Sometimes, rules include freezing the gift (no one can take it from you) under certain circumstances, like it has been taken 3 times. in our families, some couples work together for a strategy to keep a gift they want.

Thanks for the reply KillroyII (were you really there??
We know the gift thing as "Dirty Santa" Never have figured out why it is Dirty Santa as "Santa" brought the gift!! One time I really got "stiffed", lack of a better word.... My Santa gift was about $6 more than the limit.

When it came time for my draw, opened it and it was a pair of Union Boss gloves, about a $2 item. The person that got my gift wanted to stop the game right then!! Refused. As it wound up, I got my gift back, then the last person to draw got a pair of dress gloves and immediately took my gift away!!

Needless to say... Sure I went over the $$ limit, but it was a darn nice gift, compared to my Union Boss work gloves!!

Oh well, we did have fun for a few minutes!!

Thanks again for your reply!!!

Dave

I was always in charge of the games and exchanges at my clogging Christmas parties. Everyone always got a big chuckle out of playing the Right-Left exchange game. You read a story and every time you hear the word "right", you pass your gift to the person sitting on the right side of you. If you hear "left", you pass it to the left. Whatever gift you are holding at the end of the story is the one you keep.
