I’ve had a D850 for many years, lately added a Z6. I have now discovered the Video button and am rhyming to use it on my Nikon Z6, I am now very proud of myself and think I should get an award. Like the ones given to politicians when all they have done is what they have been paid for.

I would like to send some of the videos, to my wife to use on her social media site. Can you Hoggers direct me to any resources that will tell me what the best output for these are and how to achieve this?

For some reason, I tend not to use a DSLR to shoot video. I've found that sites like DropBox and Google Drive are good for sharing large files.

The current standard, universal output for video is "HD" at 1920x1080. Frame rates vary from 24 to 60 based on opinion. Social media standards change. Some like square and some don't care.

Can you be more specific about what you want to do and what video editing software you plan or hope to use?

If you want free, both Apple and Windows machines have basic video editing apps built in.

If you want more of a system, Premiere Elements is one of the several good video editors in the under $100 class. I've used it for 10 years. The best part of Premiere Elements is the massive training available, both third party and built in.

Set up a free YouTube account. You can post videos privately, or make them public. Then you text or email or post a link to it, and send a password separately if you protect it. Vimeo also lets you do this.

Remember that 60% of what we get from video comes from the sound track, not the picture. So spend some time learning audio recording principles and get appropriate microphones. The inverse square law (radiation of any kind dissipates as the inverse of the square of the distance from the source — 1/D^2) applies to sound as well as light, so get the microphone CLOSE to your desired sound source.

I have a rebel t3 and connect it to my DVD recorder.thats how I get film footage.

I find DropBox very good. Free data up to 2GB. After use keep in your storage or ditch, leaving data capacity for future free use.
